Looking at 2011

This morning as I ponder the same period last year, I remember how worried I was to welcome the new year 2010. My fears were pointless for God is in control, I realized.   My devotion this morning taught me to think, plan, prepare for 2011 with selfless heart.  Hope these would help you also look ahead for the coming year...  "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." Phil.2:3-4

What's the squeeze?

This week Ate Rosy,my beloved cell leader for years, taught us kindness and goodness through sponge illustration and a story. Ate Rosy took a sponge and dipped it in a cup of grayish-colored water. She then squeezed the water to another cup then asked us what made us have this water in the cup? Is it the sponge or the squeeze or the water? So we said its the water but the squeeze made it come out.  Now after explaining further we shifted to this story. Tell me whats the squeeze in this story. There was a mother who came home and smelled something really foul odor coming from their kitchen. She found out it was the refrigerator. It was left open for hours that the food which she prepared heartily got spoiled and impossible to consume anymore. She knew who was the culprit. It was her daughter. She numerously reminded her not to slam the fridge door because it will bounce back. Her daughter was in school then. The mom was angry and was also already formulating in he...

Revival Can It Happen To You?

This one verse captures it all for me: "  The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways,        But a good man  will be satisfied  from above ." Proverbs 14:14 Amazing word of God. Really straight to the point. Either the heart is for Him or away from Him.

Queens Day Celebration

Got this from the net. She was the first queen who is given this celebration. In the morning the rain was so heavy so I just stayed home and looked from the window the parade happening in the street. But I got the chance to take pictures when the weather got better in the afternoon. In the Centro, the kids are cute with face paints, selling 2nd hand items with their parents and all the orange things around from shirt to headdress. Orange is the Queens Day color.

Sheep! Sheep!

I wish I have my pamangkinis to see all of them. They are soo cute but yes the bible is true about them. They are trusting, easy to scare and they just eat and eat where they are stationed. Maybe next time I will interview the shepherd to know more about them.

Re-learning things...

So far two things I am forced to re-learn here: 1. Wash the dishes, the dutch way 2. Ride the bicycle along hi-way I just learned that hot water is so precious here as clean drinking water is in Philippines. So in washing the dishes, the dutch people have special dish-washing liquid soap that doesn't require rinsing. Strange for me but I just followed what I had to do. Believe me, the dishes don't smell and they are indeed clean. I really had to set aside the filipino practice in this simple chore for a while. Now regarding the second re-learning. We went back to stores again (i attached some pics our first stop was chocolate store) but this time I have to practice my biking skills. People here normally go around by bicycles. My sister told me I have to get used to riding the bike and familiarize myself with the directions so I can go by my self next time. I know how to drive bicycle but not on a hi-way. I was praying that God would protect me while riding the bike. It was quit...

Panalong Takbo at Lakad sa HK At Macau

This weekend till yesterday I had opportunity to go to Hongkong and Macau for business & pleasure purposes with my nielsen family.  For 3 days we were able to do a lot of activities together. Adventuring what bus to ride, walk in the cold, get lost in MTR, tumawad sa ladies market, maghanap ng matinong cr. be amazed at buildings and infrastructures in macau, hundreds of picture taking, low batt, no load, shop! shop! shop!, awed with cable car, exercise your leg muscles, practice kindness, patience, love and most of all faith.    It was a mix of laugh, sigh, freeze, action and excitement. I think my officemates would agree with me that what happened from day 1 to last will always be remembered big time. Kahit san ata ako makarating. I just thank the Lord I was there and now am home. Solo Christo invites you on March 21, Sunday 1-3pm

Dear Solo Christo Friends, It used to be that we just checked our e-mail. Now people are more than just surfing the 'net, looking for apps, or googling. Aside from doing reserach and checking out maps, they are posting on blogs, uploading videos, changing their status, downloading movies, tending their farms, turning mafioso, and joining causes. Solo Christo, the single adults fellowship of Higher Rock Christian Church, would like to invite you join us as we look into what God's sure word has to say about how we can think clearly about the way we use (or abuse!) the internet. This will be the first in a series of monthly fellowships on Christians and the internet. We used to meet on Saturdays but beginning this March, Solo Christo kicks off with its new schedule for fellowship every third Sunday of every month, with "Virtual Insanity" on March 21, Sunday, 1-3pm. Invite your friends and join us! Oscar Villa

Why be thankful?

Last Thursday in Youth Workers cell, our pastor Kuya Lito started his exhortation with a question "Why should we be thankful?" It's a very basic question but in truth a meaningful one to ponder about. I thought that saying thanks to someone is common to all of us. We say thank you to the person in the jeepney who handed our payment to driver, we say thank you to our mothers for preparing a simple merienda and say thank you to the Lord for an answered prayer. But why should we be thankful? Answers from the group were given: "its an act of honoring God because He is the giver of all good things", "it makes us content (for appreciating every thing)" and "It's an act of obedience". While all of the answers were correct, Kuya Lito led us to Psalms 92:1 "It is good to give thanks to the LORD And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;" (nasb) After Youth Sunday last Jan. 31,2010 where we have seen the work of the Lord among the chu...
