The life of a single in a relationship

This week I attended two weddings, one in General Santos City and, the other of a cousin in Metro Manila. Honestly, I love weddings. Like many, I am thrilled to witness the bride march down the aisle and to hear the couple exchange vows. I know there is no perfect wedding but generally I enjoy the joyful mood attending one. No wonder Jesus too attended a wedding, He is the Author of marriage of man and woman-- and it was indeed good. God is truly gracious to bring two people together, to be united as one; depicting Christ's love for the Church, His Bride. Now why the title? I am not confused. Yes, I am in a relationship but technically I am single also. When the time comes, God-willing, I will rejoice in the Lord; but, while it's not, I still thank the Lord because each day in a life of a single in a relationship is His appointed day. He is in control and He does not make mistakes nor forgets appointments, like many people do. The life of a single in a relationship i

Death is gain

Randy Alcorn said "we should not romanticize death. But those who know Jesus should realize that death is the gateway to never-ending joy." My friend's father died recently. She was close to her dad. He called her 'My Princess'. Before he died he suffered from Tuberculosis. When he got healed from TB, he then had Dementia, a mental disease that causes one to have gradual memory loss. In effect, he would often ask who she was, but on good days, he'd fully recognize her. She recalled asking him "Sige nga Dad, sino ako?" his reply, "ikaw pa, you're my princess!". My friend is a believer in Jesus Christ. I remember seeing her with her mom and dad in church's Sunday Services or special gatherings. I regret that I never had the chance to talk with him during those times but I heard my friend would often share gospel to him. Just days before he died, his memory was lucid. It was her chance to ask some questions about his faith. S

ehdirunwithme: A different kind of run

Why different?  It's different because our challenge is to run 1000km.  Seriously? Yes, we are serious. ehdirunwithme's challenge is to run 1000km in 3 hours. Impossible? No, it's doable because ehdirunwithme is calling for crowdrunners to run together and reach the 1000km run and raise the fund for hospital and medical needs of needy individuals. Kayang-kaya kapag sama-sama! (We can do it when we are together!) Lessons I learned from biking

Not that I just learned how to ride a bike, but it's been quite a long time since I rode a bike again--that's where I got the purpose of adding a post in annderthesun. I'll start by saying, I am stupid (ouch!). Yes, I am. I have to say that before I tell you that I rode a bike not noticing that I was running flat, until I reached my sister's house which is about a kilometer away. You may imagine my struggle in pedaling. I was running like an old horse trying to pedal but the more I tried, the more I get tired and I felt that the effort was useless. I thought, do I really lack exercise this much? So, I stopped and went and stopped again; after 3 stops and reaching about 400 meters from house, I decided to end my despair and take a tricycle to my sister's house. I was happy to reach my sister's place alive and have the energy to play basketball with my 8-year old nephew. I ate Koko Krunch while he is eating his brunch before going to school. An hour passed

Kapag 30 ka na...

Nuong teenager ako, ang tingin ko sa mga 30something ang tanda-tanda na nila. Dapat may asawa na sila. Dapat marami na silang narating sa buhay. I thought these people must have gone through a lot of experiences and they are the wisest. Tipong alam na nila ang gagawin nila in any given situation. They are the Ate's and the Kuya's. Yung mga 40 pataas, ah institusyon na ang tingin ko sa mga 'yun. Iba pala kapag 30 ka na… When I reached 30, (yezz I'm actually mid-30s now) hindi ko naisip na matanda na ako. Lalong wala sa isip ko na mag-asawa na. Hindi ko din masabi kung madami na akong narating sa buhay (but I am grateful to God for what He have blessed me so far)at higit sa lahat kung ako ba yung matatawag na wisest. I don't always know exactly what to do in any given situation. Nalilito pa nga ako minsan kung magta-taxi, bus or mrt.  Sa mga kabataan, if you are like me then, maybe what I gained from thinking highly of those older than me was imitating t

Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou My Vision Lately God has been reminding me of that hymn, Be Thou My Vision. In the lyrics it says, "Thou my best thought by day or by night; waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light..." God is a jealous God. He does not want his children to worship other gods or any "uncertain riches" 1Tim6:17. My heart is prone to wander. To wake up thinking of work to do, people to meet, errands, goals to achieve, etc. where can God be in all my time? His thoughts, His Word, should always be with me as I work, as I meet people, as I do my errands for the day and my goals to achieve. Last night, I've learned to pray for God's will. To ask, "Lord, Thy will be done." That prayer Jesus taught His disciples in Matthew 6, is loaded with many lessons. Prayer is not just about petitions to God, it's leaning towards Him. God's plan will be as it will be but God commanded us to pray because in prayer, we are transformed to think, desire and do His w

My First PUSO Day

I am 35, single  (technically)   who have been asked numerous times every February of my life this same generic and sometimes annoying question of what will I do on the 14th? Normally my answer would just be a smile but this year is different. I have an answer, we have an all-girls-sleep-over partey!!! Last Feb14 (on a Friday, Payday, Valentines), while the Metro is cursed with heavy traffic both on streets and in trains (ya! people-traffic), I stayed at home the whole day to prepare for the night. My housemates and I, invited our girl friends to have a Valentines party at home and we called it P.U.S.O. Don't ask me what the acronym mean because I keep forgetting, the S though stands for Singles. See my pang-elementary wall decor...We even have our Love wall... Anyway, the ladies started coming by 5pm. The program was simple: eat, have a game and movie marathon. We had dinner, talked, laughed and ate as much sweets as we wanted (imagine 10+ women talking and laughing...t
